Propylene glycol and dipropylene glycol diesters are prepared by reacting dichloropropyl ethers with a carboxylic acid salt, e.g., sodium acetate, and the corresponding carboxlyic acid, e.g., acetic acid.
The by-product sodium chloride is insoluble in the acetic acid and easily separated from the reaction mixture.
Propylene Glycol Diacetate can be hydrolyzed to their respective glycols.

The invention provides a production method of 1, 2-propylene glycol diacetate, and relates to a chemical synthesis technology.
The production method of Propylene Glycol Diacetate comprises the following steps of carrying out esterification reaction by using propylene glycol monomethyl ether and acetic acid as raw materials in the existence of a catalyst, and rectifying a produced 1, 2-propylene glycol diacetate crude product so as to obtain the high-quality 1, 2-propylene glycol diacetate product, wherein the catalyst is a styrene-divinyl benzenesulfonic acid type acid cation exchange resin which is modified by metal ions and has compound enhancement type macropores, and the cation exchange resin is prepared by sulfonating on a benzene ring after polymerizing styrene and a divinyl benzene monomer, and an ion is any one of Zn<2+>, Fe<3+>, Al<3+>, Na<+>, Fe<2+> or K<+>.
The production method of Propylene Glycol Diacetate has the advantages that the adopted catalyst has high activity and long service life, the selectivity and the yield of the product are high, few byproducts are generated, and after the catalyst is inactivated, the catalyst is filtered, recovered, subjected to acid treatment and dried so as to be recycled.

1. Propylene Glycol Diacetate is a strong dissolving ability, hydrophobicity is prior to EGDA,bad activity with NCO, strong solvent for polyurethane, alkyd, Crylic acid resin, polyester, Vinnolit, etc.
2. Propylene Glycol Diacetate is a non toxicity, low odor.
3. Propylene Glycol Diacetate can replace DBE completely to improve leveling, adjust film dry speed. Propylene Glycol Diacetate can replace cyclohexanone,

Isophorone, CAC, PMA, Butylcellosolve, etc high boiling point solvent partly.
Propylene Glycol Diacetate usage ratio in paint formulation 3-5%, usage ratio in thinner summer formulation 10-15%
Evaporate comparison: Butyl Acetate =1.0,PGDA=0.04,DBE=0.025, EGDA=0.05

Applying in PU, baking coating, ink coating, including coil coating, wood coating, can coating, auto coating, NC paint, enamelled wire coating, screen print ink, cleaner, etc.
Because of strong dissolving ability, slow dry and good hydrophobicity, PGDA is prior to EGDA.
PGDA is not recommended in single component plastic paint.
